The food here is the BEST that we have had in the area. All of the employees are so extremely helpful and courteous, and they take the time to assist you in selecting dishes. The food tastes so fresh! There is a chicken with a white (coconut?) sauce that is superb. The extremely dark, meaty Filipino dish (meat or pork chunks with vinegar?) is also fantastic. Emily is awesome; she is a supervisor at the restaurant. Next time we will order dessert.

Let me start by saying I'm not Filipino, but my GF is so I'm forced to eat this stuff. Overall I do not enjoy Filipino cuisine, but this place ain't too shabby. The beef skewers are tasty as is the halo halo. The prices and portions here are also a great deal.

food is good but the service is very poor. management should reprimand your employees..

Never been to a filipino restaurant. I've had pancit and lumpia in the past. I spotted Pinoy Pinay and said to myself why not try something new. The restaurant was set up like a chinese fast food restaurant. Rice and 2 items for 8 dollars. They had the standard Pancit, Chicken Adobo, Lumpia. Like I said earlier I wanted something new . I chose the Pork cooked in Pork Blood, and Taro cooked in coconut milk. Both tasted good, for dessert I had the banana wrapped in egg roll wrapper and deep friend. It was all very good and when I am in the area again, I will try other the other choices they offer.

Was working in the area and needed lunch. This worked just perfectly. Ordered sisig and the BBQ, great taste. Some cons are that the entrees are not labeled (sucks if you don't know the food names, but if u do, ur solid), the other is that you need to spend $10 minimum to use debit card.

Went here once and will never go back again. The whole family got very sick. How can I give this place negative stars. If you went on September 5th 2015 you probably did not feel good the next day. I felt it right away my son didn't eat for 2 days after eating here because his stomach was so upset. When I called to let them know they didn't seem concerned they got defensive.

My go to joint if I want some good filipino food quickly. My favorite thing there is the sisig. I love that the pork skin stays super crunchy. My first experience of sinigang was at this place too. I never had an issue with the food not being labeled properly. You can always ask them, they're more than happy to tell you what things are. Or seriously, just point to what looks good. That's what I do.

plenty of seating and place was clean.....i would definitely come back if around area to get my lechon fix. The kare, kare is good. The pork skewers tasted real good but had to discard the rest because it was undercooked (ordered it to go, else i would of gave it back). There is actually a sopao place around the corner that serves a better lechon. I cant lie if PPFR was next door, I would probably go there 2-3 times a week because Filipino food always beat a burger joint any day.

We have been here a couple of times and the food was underwhelming. It is a cafeteria style dining fast food restaurant. The was greasy, bland, and disappointing. Two thumbs down!

  • Heather J.

Food was pretty decent and a good price. I got a combo with chicken adobo and a fried pork with tofu. The adobo was really good, good flavor and a ton of sauce. The pork was a little on the dry side and not as flavorful, but it was decent enough. They did have food that my very picky friend could eat, which is nice. She got the teriyaki chicken and seemed to enjoy it.

the best filipino food ever. i even got my hubby hooked. great prices and adequate parking. the only thing is - it is kinda far from my house by cal state los angeles. i wish they would open one around this area :) staff is friendly and very helpful. oh and they take mc/visa (has to be over $15)

  • Auau V.

so far the best halo-halo around...order the halo-halo special...it's worth the extra 50 cents. the service is very friendly. everyone smiles and seems genuinely glad to have you as their customer. all the other dishes looks great but i just came in to get halo-halo. i definitely will return though...great place!

I really like Pinoy Pinay. It has honestly good Filipino. I am not filipino so I can not name a lot of the dishes, but to be honest they all have meat and usually have a layer of grease on top, but they still are great. My favorite would be the Sinigang and you get a bowl of this amazing sour soup with every combo. The reason they only get two stars is because the service here honestly SUCKS. If you are not fluent in Tagalog they often will ignore you for customers that are. I have gone in by myself or with Filipino friends and they do not pay you the time of day. To be honest this is not unique to this Filipino restaurant ( see D.J. Bibingkahan across the street). So if you want some good greasy food I really recommend this place, just be prepared to put up with some terrible service.

A good place to satisfy my filipino food cravings! Normally our first stop before grocery shopping. After all, it's not good to go grocery shopping on an empty tummy. :) Their food is delish, their prices cheap, and the portions huge! The staff are friendly and informative (my gf is not filipino so she always asks what's in every dish.) make sure to leave room for some halo-halo!

Best and most consistent Filipino food that I've tried in the West Covina/Rowland Heights area so far. When they have it the sisig is surprising good considering they are not know for their sisig. Great place, I love the Kare Kare and BBQ shish-kabobs as well. Recommended for the consistent food quality and taste which is sometimes a problem with filipino restaurants.

    (4)
  • Melissa C.

Nonono... every time my mom would want to come here, my sisters and I convince her to go to DJ's across the street instead because I've been here before, and their food does not compare to what they have at DJ's. Read what I've reviewed for DJ's Bibingkahan, and you can tell that I remember good food when I've had it. Writing a review about Pinoy Pinay, I can't even name anything memorable from here. Hmm...

Ah, another lunch favorite. I quite love this place actually, I think partly because I have this fetish of steam-table places, I don't know why, and still no one can explained that to me. If I see a steam-table place, I will go and try it. Usually either you'll be pleasantly surprised or, well... a toss between your gag reflex and your bowel. :p But I've been here many times, sometimes on the weekend for breakfast. The service here is friendly, food quality is consistent, and their halo-halo is yummy. Hey Greg P. please don't likened this place with Panda Express. First, they have many different flavors to their dishes, at Panda all the food taste the same.

Typical Filipino turo turo place. Service is awful. The lady at the cash register gives you the receipt...Doesn't say THANK YOU or HAPPY NEW YEAR and NO SMILE! Pissed me off. What's so hard about say any of those. Never again! I can get the same food at a politer place. Thank you and Happy New Year!

Absolutely love Pinoy Pinay. The food is always great and the sabao is outstanding. The food tastes authentic. Not like other places where each dish has the same flavor even though they look nothing alike. We always order their fish dishes and they're awesome. The dinaguan is very yummy too, and its not full of fat and 'filler' ingredients. The atomosphere is quaint, with lots of native paintings for decor. I have even got catering here for my sons baby shower and it was wonderful. I am glad they FINALLY accept credit cards now, but only for purchases over $15. My only beef with them is it always seems to take a while to ring up your purchase, but it's well worth the wait.

  • Mika D.

Uhh. Not memorable. Went here for some filipino food as our last meal before heading back to the Bay Area. Wished we spent our money at Taco Bell. At least Taco Bell didn't have a swarm of flies. =(

  • Jamie Q.

I really like this place. Sure it's not as good as food from Grandma or Mom, but then again when is food ever as good? I enjoy this place because it has authentic Filipino food, unlike other so called Filipino restaurants ala Jollibee. Stuff like eggplant fried in egg and kare kare. Stuff that reminds me of home. It's also quick and easy. You pull up a tray and you pick what you want. It's a perfect place to come for a quick lunch. My only complaint is, and this actually applies to all filipino restaurants, but why is it always so damn expensive? What is it about filipino food that makes it noticeably more expensive than say chinese food? I wonder.

  • Gerald S.

I haven't been to too many Filipino restaurants so maybe my tastes are different. I had these dishes: curry-like chicken & red beef. My fiance had the red beef along with pork kabobs. The beef and chicken were both sour dishes, which I didn't expect. The pork kabobs were sweet and tasty, but they were quite fatty. I really didn't expect a filipino restaurant to be fast food though.

  • Greg P.

The Panda Express for Filipino food! If you ever wanted to try some, this is a good place for it. It's set up just like a Panda. You grab yer tray, get some rice, then order some sides to fill up yer 2 piece combo. They have everything from pancit (flip noodles), BBQ skewers, beef stew, fish, and many flippy faves. Don't think they have Balut, the chicken fetus in the egg, but have mostly everything else. A typical combo will cost about 4 bucks. Lots of space to sit and friendly staff. Usually a line around noon, but hey, try it, you'll like it

Place has great filipino food. Great prices and big selection.. The people are cool and sometimes they give samples.....i give it 5 spoons

Cheap good eats. Yeah, it's hella greasy but this is pinoy fast food. Krisztina's review on the "putrid rotten shrimp guts" cracked me up. That's "bagoong" honey and that $hit is delicious. Their bbq sticks and kare kare are pretty good too, however the lechon kawali leaves alot to be desired. Lechon kawali is deep fried pork..usually it's crispy on the outside and juicy tender on the inside. The serving we had tasted old and the inside was mealy. On the other hand, the halo-halo supreme can't be beat. It's the perfect dessert on a hot day. Shaved ice, flan, jackfruit, macapuno, ube, etc all served in a glass ice cream bowl...very yummy! Order this at the counter from the rude older filipina lady then find a seat. Be prepared for her to rudely yell 'halo halo supreme' when it's ready...and you better get your ass up there fast or she'll give you the side eye and purse her lips. Just pick it up and enjoy!

this place scares me with what they serve... but be the first to have it, some of the stuff looks old!

    (2)
  • jake c.

get the lechon and caldereta, ask for one scoop of extra rice, usually they will give it to you and when you pay, sometimes they dont even relize you have an extra scoop.. so you get a .50 cent discount.. =)

  • Alphy C.

This place is good if you are craving for quick down and dirty Filipino food.... A lot of the food though are swimming in oil and grease. The dishes they serve, when cooked at home, is typically not as oily and greasy as they are served at Pinoy Pinay. If you don't mind having greasy ass lips, then this place is great. I don't like their sisig. it tastes like day old or left over lechon kawali from the day before that they chopped up and added grease, onions, jalapenos, etc...... I love their kaldereta and lechon kawali...

  • sybril s.

This is a place I'd stop by to grab to-go for dinner after work... They usually have a pretty good selection and they give you TONS of food; especially when you go right before they close LOL I love their beef stew with carrots, potatoes and hot dogs... yes, hot dogs!! (Sorry, I don't know what it's called in Filipino) It was kinda weird but it is tasty... the beef is tender and very flavorful... I also like their grilled pork chops... yum! The food is pretty greasy but still, I couldn't resist :)

Honestly, this place is just too busy to provide any kind of good service. The dessert is good but the regular courses are too salty.

My quest to review all things Phil, or Philip brought me to a Filipino restaurant. Pinoy Pinay is a fast food Filipino restaurant located at the southeastern corner of the intersection of Amar and Azusa. They are located more along Azusa Avenue, by the Jack in the Box. My Yelp friends, who gave me a quick Tagalog lesson, tells me that this is "Turo Turo" type of restaurant, and you point to what you want. They have all kinds of foods that they can turn into a combo. They even have desserts. They rotate their foods everyday. But, with a picky little child, the only things I order from this place is their pancit, lechon, and sisig. I've been here so much the past couple of months that I somehow became the "Duke" here. The servers, who know my face, treat me well. The one young guy who works there doesn't even ask me what I want anymore. After greeting me, he goes straight to the pancit and gives me a large portion of their noodles. Because they rotate their foods, I can come here twice a week and get two different kinds of noodles from each visit. The noodles are very basic with chicken in it. Their lechon is good. The skin is very crunchy. The meat is tender and tasty. Like the pancit, the server overflows my container with this crunchy meat. Sisig is served on Saturdays. It has a good flavor and has bits of crunchy skin in it. I don't know how it compares to other Filipino places as I have never had it before. They give you complimentary soup. They have a sour soup and a regular tasting one. Sorry, I am not a fan of sour tasting soups. Their regular tasting soups are okay. But, you normally have to ask. Pretty good place for a quick and cheap meal. Service is good. I will be back.

4.69 Stars, quick assembly line, good food despite being in serving trays, plenty of seats, plenty of parking. This place has a 3.5 star rating, I do not care I give it a 4.5 star rating Lechon you are so crispy and yet so tender, I love you forever BBQ pork your taste was thourough and consistent, maybe even also redentant too as well. I loved it. Taste was straightforward, not fancy or unique as esteemed by yelp hot spot standards but very solid! Service is ok, no problems. Parking is easy, huge mini-mall on the south side of the Filipino District I will be back a billion times or until the universe cease to exist Song parody of Stevie Wonder's 1972 song You Are the Sunshine of My Life" youtube.com/watch?v=3wZ_… You are the lechon in my life I love this Filipina town You're the pork angel in my eye The Pinoy Pork that's in my heart And eating you, is the beginning Though I've loved you for a million years, And if I thought this lunch was ending You'd see both my foodie, eyes, all in tears You are the lechon in my life I love this Filipina town You're the pork angel in my eye The Pinoy Pork that's in my heart You must have known that I was hungry Your tasty pork was my rescue I think you could be my pork heaven I want to show my love in this review You are the lechon in my life I love this Filipina town You're the pork angel in my eye The Pinoy Pork that's in my heart

Definitely not impressed. I wasn't expecting much to begin with but dang - the hygene of this place is subpar. My manfriend wanted some Filipino food so we ventured to the plaza's on Amar. Randomly went into a few smaller mom and pop shops to see if they had legit Filipino food but it all looked nasty with flies all over. We came to Pinoy Pinay because it's a well known chain. I think I was expecting more of a restaurant style place but you can pretty much compare this place to a panda express. They offer combination plates and you pay after you choose what you want. Kind of like cafeteria style. Service lacks. What we got : Sinigang : LOVE Sinigang. I don't know what a GOOD sinigang tastes like but this one tasted bomb. I don't think I've had a nasty Sinigang yet. Palabok : Good but the pork rinds they threw in it took over the taste Beef adobo : Very good - tender meat but there was a lot of fat I had to cut around Pancit : my fave. Cant go wrong with Pancit Chicken skewers : burnt to crisp but it was pretty tasty. Lechon : Very crispy The food itself wasn't bad, it just was very greasy. Afterwards I was SO tired but I'm sure this is a GREAT hangover remedy. I am currently trying to find a LEGIT, local, Filipino spot to eat at.

Food is good!! Like all the other Pinoy Pinays. However, the place is dirty. Had to wipe our table because it was dirty and sticky.

InKambing was disappointment after having some earlier in day at another establishment. Meat was hard & sauce was too oily, flavor was lacking. Fish was OK...Service was fine , nothing special

It's hard to review Filipino food because I've had it for my whole life so I will definitely be biased about it. With that said, I really like this fast food place! My family and I have eaten at this fast food place for many years. This review is going to be about my recent visit with my Mom. We only got 2 Halo-halo Special aka "mix-mix" and one siopao for me. The Halo-Halo - 4.5 stars This is one of the best halo-halo in LA! If you're craving it, you really have to drive to this place so you can try this yummy dessert/snack! It's the Filipino shaved ice. Basically, it is built in a three-part layers. In the bottom, there are sweet red beans, kidney beans, sugar palm fruit (kaong), jackfruit, and caramelized plantains. In the middle is the shaved ice and on top is the red and green jelly, leche flan, UBE halaya (purple yam), ube ice cream, and cherry on top. Nothing beats this sweet snack on a very hot day! Siopao - 3 stars For what it's worth, I think it should be cheaper. I think it was $2.50 but the filling was actually a lot! The siopao is like the equivalent of Banh bao in Vietnamese cuisine or steamed bun or baozi in Chinese cuisine. Place and ambience - 3 stars They have TVs that shows the Filipino channel and their furniture is reminiscent from the Philippines. They could update to a better color selection on the furniture though. Overall, I had a nice date with my Mom on a hot heat wave day in SoCal! It was definitely the perfect time to get my halo-halo on!

Wednesdays and Sundays are my favorite days. Why? Because those are the only days they have Laing, of course. It's really good. I'm not lying (pun intended). Almost as good as my Nanay, my maternal grandmother, used to make it. I never did get to learn her recipe though. Tsk tsk. So what is Laing you ask? It's the Filipino version of greens. Made with Gabi (taro) leaves, chicharon, sili and coconut milk. So sinfully creamy. On top of steaming white rice, the first bite is always the best as a burst of flavors assail your senses. Yum. I'm transported back in time, my Nanay in the kitchen, me sitting at the table stuffing myself silly. Whoa, what a rush. I love their complimentary sour soup as well and with extra sili it is on! I don't even need anything else, just the soup, Laing and rice. Another favorite of mine is the sisig. Deep fried Crispy pork cheeks mixed with onions, garlic, ginger, vinegar, chili and other spices. Just the right amount of salty and tartness to cut down the richness of the pork cheeks. One time I tried their green beans with giniling (ground pork) that was good too. As usual they have other offerings as well, like the daing na bangus (marinated milk fish) this one I am not fond of as my mom makes the best, so I stay away from that. They have adobo chicken or pork, again I don't order because, ahem, my adobo is a lot better. Anyhoo. Back to the offerings at This restaurant- they have many different kakanin (Filipino desserts) as well. One time we ordered the halo-halo. It was good but I had better. You also have a choice of some Filipino drinks like mango shake, calamansi and orange juices, sago at gulaman, etc, other than the usual fountain sodas or bottled/canned drinks. Not an upscale restaurant but a nice place to bring the family or just to hang out with friends. Parking is adequate and the restroom is mostly clean. I don't come everyday, which is a shame but I do visit Pinoy Pinay a lot more often than other Filipino restaurants.

Eating spot of the filipinos basically. Even my family goes here after church. Basically in the heart of a striving Filipino community. This is the place to go when hunger for filipino food. Your lechon that you had when you go to the filipino parties. Halo halo you first tried. Everything is here basically, food is great and places above other Filipino restaurants that I have been to. TVs are hung on the ceilings providing entertainment to all. From GMA, TFC, or the NBA finals. This is one spot to go to. Catering services are also available. Party platter are quite pricey but we need that food at the party we are about to have. "Kase gutom na sila!"

I love the food here! whenever im craving filipino food i always choose this place over all the surrounding restaurants. The food here taste really fresh. i usually order the lechon kawali, laing, and the bikol express and it all taste great! if im in the mood for dessert i get the maize con hielo with a side of ube icream! This place used to be cash only...but now you can use credit card with a min of $15 purchase..so yea...bring cash still

Since my grandma was in the mood for turon, but they ran out of turon and karioka by the time I was there. I came here to get some plus dinner for the rest of my family. I chose Inihaw na Liempo (Grilled Pork Belly), Giniling Guisado, and Bistek. Their large cost $6.00 for one. An extra large is $13.00. There was plenty of onions with the beefsteak, their inihaw was sliced thinly and had some chopped tomatoes, onions, and green onions. The dipping sauce that came with it was good too. The guisado is a fave of mine here; ground beef with some vienna sausage, red bell peppers, carrots, potatoes, and peas. A combo with two choices costs $6.50 with plenty of rice, plus you can get free soup if you ask. There's always water cups near the register to grab. To use a card, you need to buy at least $10.

I always come here for kare-kare, lechon paksiw, sisig and pork bbq. Dinuguan is good too! I spend less than $18 for 3 medium-size dishes. The portions are decent. The money I spent here is always worth it.

I just came here to get the Halo Halo on a very hot day.....and it was good and very refreshing...aahhh. I wasnt very hungry but the food smelled pretty good. I also came hoping to spot Manny Pacquiao but was out of luck.

rude Rude RUDE!!! I WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE I KNOW DOES NOT EAT OR SPEND THEIR MONEY HERE! I'm filipino but I don't look like it, and everytime I come here with my Mexican boyfriend the service is beyond horrible. They give you dirty looks if you're not filipino and get annoyed when you ask what dishes are what. I was hoping a bitch would start talking shit about us so I could call them out, but it never happened. Every time were in line, everyone else always gets better service because they're obviously Filipino. Once we asked for an extra scoop of rice and 3 employees got involved and made it into a big drama. How fucking hard is it to scoop rice. Why is it confusing for them? I will not even give this place the respect of commenting on their average food. When service is this horrible, that's all that matters. These people never smile, never say thank you, basically don't know their manners. Totally disrespectful. I remember when this place opened, I can't wait to see it close...

    (1)
  • Carlo P.

I used to like going to this place but is no longer a fan. Service is mediocre as the staff jokes around amongst themselves which in most cases ignore the customers. The grilled pork (inihaw) used to be better. I can't seem to understand why their prices increased and the quality of their food went down. I no longer go to this place.

    (1)
  • Mike C.

To be honest..I really like this place. Service can be a bit slow and sometime you get people who doesnt seem like they want to be there... BUT! the food is good. The price is like getting a combo meal at the fast food joint. I usually get the lechon..Man..those sauce are so addicting! --"i put that sh*t on everything". And usually I end up with the BBQ sticks. The bbq sticks doesn't have that much of a flavor..so dip that into the lechon sauce and its Bomb.Com . I like how they give you the soup to go with your meal...its soo drooooling good and its FREE! did you hear that? its FREEEEEE ! anyway...back to what i was saying...its not everyone's cup of tea because my gf doesn't seem to enjoy their food as much as I do. Its like Durian...you love it or you hate it !

  • Clark K.

Food is good but I noticed that they don't fill up the containers like the competition does. It seems like they are counting whatever they put in. I could only guess the management told them so. If this persists I will be go to another place. There are many!

  • Priscilla L.

This was my first time here and eating Filipino food. There's a lot of great options to choose from. I asked the waiter for recommendations and he said the BBQ sticks were good. So I ordered the pork BBQ sticks and the chicken stew. It came with three scoops of rice and you have the option of soup to come with your combination. I thought the BBQ sticks were overcooked and dry, but the flavor was pretty good with banana sauce. I loved the chicken stew because the chicken was very tender and melts in your mouth. Overall, I would come back for more of the different types of stews because food looked really good. The price isn't that expensive and they give you plenty on your plate.

Whenever my boyfriend craves Filipino food, we normally hit this place. Price is reasonable, lots of food selection, and quick and easy. I normally love getting the Filipino spaghetti. It's just $4 and is a nice cheap lunch and makes me full. It also reminds me of childhood family parties. Lots of food to try and all pretty good. Definitely one of the better Filipino places and the most bang for your buck!

This turo turo restaurant seems to be one of the most popular ones in the area. Ordered 2 combos ($6.75 each) and melon sa malamig ($2.00). Sweet & sour fish: the sauce is pretty good but it's kinda chewy and hard. Lechon kawali: kinda good but hard. Kambing caldaretta: too goaty for me but the sauce is not bad. Beef steak: surprisingly tender. Melon drink: not too sweet and it's pretty good. They are generous with rice; you get 3 scoops instead of the typical 2 scoops. Your combo comes with a soup and my spicy sour soup is so spicy and good. The worker patiently explained the dishes to me one by one. Thank you!! So crowded..I couldn't even get a table at first. I had to walked around and wait for someone to leave. The worker probably couldn't keep up with the crowd because I had to clean my own wet and dirty table. Big portion and cheap food. There's a TV playing Filipino chanel. I was so tempted to get desserts when I saw bibingka, puto bumbong, empanada, karioka and turon but I was being good =) 3.5 stars!! Pinoy Pinay is kinda yummylicious!!

  • Kim N.

After trying a few sit down restaurants, I still prefer the food to go type of Filipino places. Serious more bang for your buck here. Favorites are sisig & pancit. The meat skewers were good too but cold. They don't give a full to go box for the spaghetti. But one person would get full off a 2 item combo. I can share the combo + a spaghetti and halo halo between 2 and it will satisfy allll my Filipino food cravings. Have yet to try their egg rolls. They always run out or say they can only prepare it for big orders

Food is on point! Being Filipino I can appreciate a fast food restaurant where I can get my quick fix of good home style food. On par with the other competing Filipino fast food restaurants in the same block. Halo-Halo is good so you must try it! One thing I hate about coming here are their perverted cooks in the back and the busboy with a MAJOR staring problem. It grosses me the fuck out. But at least the good is good lol

  • Beah R.

This has to be my all time favorite Filipino fast food restaurants. I feel like I'm back home whenever I come here. And it's not only because they sell Sarsi! I love their BBQ and all of their desserts and melon juices. The staff here is always friendly and helpful. Their foods are always fresh, and they are not selfish with their napkins and utensils like other fast food places are. They always play TFC and the place is genuinely clean. They service halo halo, melon juice, gulaman, and many other desserts. Also, with your order they give you free sabaw which is this sour type of soup. My grandparents don't like it as much but who cares because I do!!!

I've been meaning to try this place for quite some time since it's so close to home and I finally got the chance to this weekend. Good food, great prices and a clean environment to chow it all down. For $6-7 (depending on the items you choose), you can get your choice of two items, soup and rice. There was enough food for both my girl and I to share. We had the Lechon Kawaii and the Lamb. The Lechon Kawaii was pretty good for what it is. Other than the fact that a few of the pieces were over fried, it was yummy when dipped with the sauce they provided. The lamb tasted great. There was no smell of lamb when you ate the meat and the sauce went very well with the half of a box of rice they gave us. The tamarind soup that came with the meal was different from the Thai soup that uses tamarind. I definitely like the Filipino version a lot more. If I ever feel like skipping the vegies for a meal and be a carnivore, I think I'll stop by Pinoy Pinay again.

Originally planned to have lunch elsewhere but I didn't make their lunch time so we decided to give this place a try. Best Decision Ever! The guy behind the counter went through the dishes and suggested the most popular ones for us, he also gave us samples before picking. We selected lechon, goat, beef, fish (tail) and pancit Everything was freakin' delicious, the liver sauce with the lechon was to die for. Each plate cost about $6.75 and they give you plenty, it comes with rice and soup as well. Can't wait to try some of the other items next time.

I love this place. Every time a lot of people gather at my girlfriend's family's place for a major holiday or event, her mom gets stuff catered from here at bargain rates ('cause we have an "in".. natch) Here are my faves: - lechon kawali: Like Chinese roast pork, but maybe better because of the awesome sauce! - pork sisig: Very juicy and flavorful, kind of like a vinegary carnitas. And don't put the leftovers in the fridge. The stuff that congeals on the bottom may scare you. - pork inihaw: (Hey, have you noticed that all I like is pork?) This is the famous Filipino pork BBQ sliced into little strips. This, along with sisig, makes perfect taco filling. Definitely NOT a place to get food from if you're watching your weight. But for special occasions, hey, they only happen once, or once a year... Go "hog" wild with Pinoy-Pinay!

My visit today for take out was extremely satisfying. Nothing like craving for something you want and PP has it! Caldereta Kambing, yummy! 2 stick of BBQ pork on skewer and okoi=) with 3 scoops of steam rice. Today's cook did good today. All for around $10, can't beat that! They normally always have a good array of selections. Its your typical already made food for you to see, pick, and choose as you please. Comes in combination form. There's always a line when I go but it usually goes quickly... so hopefully the turnover of their food is frequent enough to avoid over reheating them the following day hahaha... who knows right. But today was extremely good like I said. Despite the heavy rainfall today, I found parking right in the front... I was in and out in 5 mins. Just enough time to make it home and enjoy the food with my 2 kids. My choice for filipino fast food always=)

My favorite place to get filipino food in the SGV. They have something different for everyday of the week. Their lechon is the best I have had so far in town. I always get a combo which is like less than $10. each side that you order is packed separately and bagged. They sell halo halo which is ok. I like their beef caldereta. They charge rice by the scoop if you order it separately. the desserts are awesome. from turon to bibingka. they also have carioca. and on thursday i like to get the papaitan. which is the best i have had ever! its sooo good. (its goat, liver, and tripe in broth). love it. I like the short girl that works at the register. shes really nice and always says "your back again?".......hahha... YUP! They cater too!

I grew up in this part of West Covina as a teenager, and I've eaten at most, if not all, of the Filipino fast food restaurants on the corner of Amar and Azusa avenues. Over the years of eating at these places, you definitely develop a palette that can differentiate between good and craptacular. Pinoy Pinay is one of the few filipino fast food places that I will always choose over the other places. My mom and aunts are stellar cooks, and they can whip up homemade filipino food that trumps other restaurants, so, I am a bit spoiled in that sense. But I've enjoyed all the food here thus far, even stuff that I normally wouldn't eat. My favorite food item here is their "Laing" (taro leaves stewed in coconut cream sauce, sometimes mixed with shrimp). This is a dish that can easily turn into a salt-lick if the cook isn't careful, but they've succeeded in tempering the flavors properly. Their laing is better than one of the sit-down places up the street! They always have a rotating variety of dishes, which is great, because it isn't always the same trays of caldereta/afritada/menudo that begin to look the same after a while, LOL. If you decide to order halo-halo and eat it there, it's huge! So, prepare to share with a friend, or 3 if you decide to eat that in the restaurant.

Heartburn; indigestion. Oh my goodness, where to begin...? I guess I should start off by saying that this is the first Filipino fast-food place I've ever eaten at. I don't consider this place a "restaurant" because you get a tray and pick out your food items at the window as you would at a Chinese fast-food place. The food is sitting under a heat lamp in metal containers. I suggest going early in the morning right when they open up when the food is hot and fresh. The workers are nice and super cheery, especially the middle-aged lady who put together my order. However, the younger female cashier seemed a bit bitter and annoyed when I asked her about some of the desserts they have on display. She was obviously having a bad morning. Moving on... I was craving for Sisig but they didn't have any that day. Bummer. I got the Lechon Kawali and Longanizas (sausages) which came with a small bowl of Sinigang soup and my choice of white or garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice tasted like regular white rice to me. I couldn't really tell the difference and neither could my partner. ** I like to taste my garlic, please.. The middle-aged lady was sweet enough to offer us an extra bowl of Sinigang soup for my partner and complimentary coffee. It was obvious she knew I was a first-timer. I loved her hospitality, though. By the way, if you're a "Splenda in my coffee" type of person (like me). I'd advise you to "BYO" (bring your own). Oh, and make sure you have CASH on you or be prepared to order $15 worth of food, drinks and dessert. Yup, the minimum on a credit card charge is 15 bones. I was forced to order a melon drink, a fried banana dessert and the Halo Halo ice-cream dessert. I had to take everything home because it was a lot for me to consume all by myself and indigestion was kickin' in. No joke. I haven't experienced indigestion in a long while so it literally felt like a slow and painful death to me. I love myself too much to ever commit suicide.... but that day.... I FELT LIKE I WANTED TO DIE! Seriously, I really felt like throwing myself into an erupting volcano. I probably would have if I was in Hawaii. Okay, all jokes aside.... The Lechon Kawali were scrumptious. Yes, I know... so good but so bad for me. I don't eat like this every day so I'll be okay. The Loganizas were greasy as heck!!!!! 5 exclamation points! Yes, that greasy! However, they were savory and on the sweet side. The flavor was definitely there along with all that grease.... which I'm sure was the main culprit that triggered my deathly heartburn. Ugh... At least I can say that the Sinigang soup helped just a little bit because of its sourness. If I had to drink that soup by itself, I probably wouldn't be able to because the sourness was a bit much. I prefer Sinigang from Salo-Salo Grill but definitely the Lechon Kawali from here (a little more meat; less fat but same crunch). The melon juice that was recommended to us was "eh okay"; nothing special. It's basically cantelope juice that's watered down with bits of shredded cantelope. I'd rather just eat a whole fresh cantelope, which tastes better anyway. Halo Halo, I could do without. The ice-cream and Turon mush inside were delicious but everything else just didn't have the right kind of taste-balance I was expecting. I've definitely had better elsewhere. Highlight of my entire meal was the eggroll-looking fried banana dessert. It was huge, crispy and had the perfect balance of sweetness that makes me want more after each bite. I'd come back for just this.. Overall, they get 3 stars from me. I'm sure I'll be back again but I'll admit that I'm kinda scared to... after my suicidal contemplations episode. I'm not ready to die yet... nor do I want to meet an early grave. Therefore, I'll be back next year. =)

It's a fact the Filipinos are pretty passionate about their food and cooking. The saying that Mom or Grandma cooks best is more often than not, true. Add to the fact that there are over 7000 islands that make up the country, you end up with thousands of renditions of chicken adobo or sinigang each exclaiming that there's is the best. What's my point??? I don't eat Filipino Food outside of home cause it's better but because I want the option of having some dish I can't make or don't have at home. Having options is always a good thing with me. The best place to do that is at a Filipino Fast Joint where you choose your dishes to go with your plate of rice (think like Panda Express only better cause it's real Filipino Food not Americanized Food). I've been frequenting Pinoy Pinay ever since they opened in West Covina (I've tried their location at Las Vegas and was impressed there so having one closer to me was exciting). Prices range from $5-7 depending on the dishes you select as some would be labeled as special or premium. I usually get a combo that includes 2 dishes, rice, and complementary soup which usually is sinigang (my favorite). I enjoy their kare kare, bistek, menudo, beef caldereta, bicol express, and dinuguan. But the biggest reason I love eating here is that they always have Lechon Kawali, roasted pork belly. The trifecta of crispy skin, unctuous fat, and crispy and tender meat is like the holy trinity of the magical animal we call the pig. I always choose this as one of my dishes when ordering and I always have as kid even when I ate at different Filipino joints. 1 star for giving you lots of rice 1 star for having lots of good dishes to choose from (some places its more limited) 1 star for low prices 1 star for good taste 1 star for just for ALWAYS having lechon kawali on hand -1 star cause I can't frequent this joint more often Honestly I would love to eat here once a week but all that delicious lechon, rice, and other dishes would probably give me diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and clogged arteries. Fortunately, I only dine here when I make my journey down to Little Manila every 1-2 months to get my haircut at Cherry's Salon. 4 stars for Pinoy Pinay Filipino Restaurant, Recommended (just don't eat there every week) P.S. I kind of want to drive over there to get some food but unfortunately my hair isn't that long yet =/

It was my first time here at Pinoy Pinay, normally we would go to DJ's but I wanted try some place new. There was a good selection of food. Combo plate: rice, two items, plus soup. We chose (forgive me, I don't know the names but I will describe), lechon, kare kare, bbq pork, and this squid dish. We also ordered Melon drink and Sago. My favorite here was the lichon. It was extremely crispy and it was just not all fat but there was actually meat on it. The kare kare was good but way too peanut buttery. Definitely does not compare to the home cooked kare kare. The bbq pork was a little dry but it was better with the sauce that they provide you with. The squid was extremely fishy. I think if you are not use to the fish sauce, this is not for you. For me, I also thought the squid was overcooked because I'm use to a more crispy squid, instead of soft and easy to chew. There was more than enough rice to eat with the items and the soup was good too. Just the right amount of sourness. Yum! The melon drink was delicious! Really quenched my thirst and love the pieces of melon in it. Sago is not my type of drink. It was way too sweet to me but if you like sweets, its for you! Their service is quick as you can expect for cafeteria like serving. We wanted to pay separate BUT the minimum on a card is $15. Be prepared. Give it a try!

When I was much younger, my parents used to throw tons and tons of parties. Every occasion was a reason to get a bunch of friends and family together, with tons and tons of food, and spend time singing, drinking, and dancing. Now that my parents are a little older, they're not really interested in cooking for 50 people. Enter Pinoy Pinay. My mom has a personal connection with one of the women who work here, and we get our parties catered from here all the time. Their sisig is to die for. I've never liked sisig, but this stuff takes the cake. (Bonus: we froze it from Christmas, brought it with us to SF, defrosted it a week ago, and had it in tacos. Best idea ever) They have good palabok and kare kare, and tasty lechon kawali. If you think this place is too greasy and unclean, you should grow a pair, or stay away so I don't have to wait in line behind your ungrateful ass for my party food.

Tonight I picked up my mom and we went to Pinoy Pinay for dinner. The restaurant was empty so we thought it might be closed. An employee named Jerry served us from behind the counter, and to my dismay, he was absolutely rude. He rushed us into making decisions of what to order, which bothered me since my mom is elderly and needed time to decide what she wanted. He was curt and condescending when he spoke to us. When we went to pay for our meal, I asked the cashier for his name and shared with her that I would write a review of this restaurant and mention Jerry's name. A few minutes into our meal, the young lady came to our table and informed us that she was a supervisor and wanted to know what the problem was. I explained the situation and she apologized profusely. She went in the back room then came back to our table, informing us that she had spoken to both Jerry and the manager, and that the manager would handle the situation. I shared with the supervisor that had the restaurant been busy, I could understand his curtness. However we were the only patrons in their establishment. Additionally, the fact that he was rude AND rude to a senior citizen is unacceptable. I suggested that he be sent to customer service training asap. My parents have been customers for years at this restaurant however tonight was the first time in a long time that I had been here. I would recommend that if you are craving Filipino food, either eat at home, at your mamas house, or go elsewhere. If you do decide to eat here and a guy named Jerry is behind the counter, ask for someone else to assist you. By the way, Ivy, the supervisor does get five gold stars for her careful follow through of this situation.

I came here Sunday to have lunch. There was a pretty good selection of food and since it was raining, the soup that comes with the meal was a welcoming bonus. Our group ordered the diniguan, sisig, lechon, kare kare, and sinigang. The rice servings were plenty and more than I remember getting in the past. All the food was yummy and topping it off with halo halo hits the spot. Pinoy pinay is one of my favorite filipino eats to go to.

The first time I came here I looked at the case and, as it sometimes happens when we try new things, I had NO IDEA what was in front of me. Lucky for me the staff was SUPER FRIENDLY & PATIENT and explained all of the different combo items they offer. I ended up getting a two-item combo; one item was a delicious slightly-sweet concoction of taro leaves, coconut milk and baby shrimp, and the other item was an excellent beef stew with olives, potatoes, bell peppers and possibly yams which really reminded me of the Cuban dish of ropa vieja. The two 'special-item' combo (most items fall into this distinction) comes with rice and costs $6.75, and it EASILY feeds two people. Next time I go I will definitely share, and there will certainly be a next time considering this spot is not only awesome, but next to an awesome market (Island Pacific Supermarket) as well.

One of the workers here thinks my sweetie is hot and is always saying crazy stuff to her in Tagalog. This past Sunday he asked her to go away with her to the Philippines. No sweat, all in good fun, this strange harrassing behavior usually nets us an extra scoop of white rice, extra pieces of chicken or pork adobo, fresher pork skewers, crispy lechon, etc. How you like them apples? What haven't I tried here? Oh yeah, the diniguan (pig blood soup)... but at some point I will have to try it out. Pinoy Pinay is the epitome of Filipino fast food, but unlike other reviews I've always found the food to be fresh, tasty, and super cheap. Add in the fact that you can grab multiple bowls of sinigang (sour soup) for free, that stuff is downright addicting. There may be better sit down Filipino restaurants out there (Barrio Fiesta, Max's, Salo Salo), but name me another cheap date where you and your sweetie can fill up for $10 or less and be romanced by a dude serving you purple pig blood soup...

Tons of yummy Filipino food for really cheap. Many items to choose from. You can get two items w/rice and a side of sinigang soup for dirt cheap. The food's hearty and you get large quantities. I came w/friends who haven't been there in years, but once they arrived the owner knew exactly who they were and greeted them, asking them how they've been all these years.. good customer service. quick, hearty bite to eat for some change, good stuff

I've been eating here for many years now, and I was kinda shocked.. they raised the prices! Granted, I haven't been here in several months, but wow. $6.35+tax for 2 items plus rice. Oh, recession. :( I went on Sunday afternoon with my family, and I ordered the Tocino (Sweetened and peppery pork) and the Sisig (Cut up, broiled, fried pork with a little vinegar, lemon juice, with onions and peppers). I also tried my mom's stuff which was Dinuguan (chocolate pork...heheh) and Bicol Express (Idk how to describe this.) Lots of pork items... I know. -__- That's what I get for being so Filipino. So the Bicol was bland.. haven't had it in a while but definitely disappointing. Dinuguan was a little sour, and my tastebuds didn't like it today.. I usually love dinuguan, but today not so much. Sisig never ceases to disappoint me.. Easily one of the best Filipino dishes ever invented. and the Tocino was the cherry on top. Filipinos just like sweet things... even when they add a little sugar to their meat. And like every Filipino dish, you have to have rice with these dishes, cuz everything is very strong for the palette. It's sour, it's sweet, it's salty... so rice is the cure-all. It's the blank canvas. Random, but for non-Filipinos, Filipino cuisine is a little overwhelming. So I was gonna give it 3 stars, but then I packed my food to-go, and got some Ube ice cream (purple yam/taro/sweet potato) and had some of my parents' Halo Halo, and it reminded me of why I love this place. 3 stars for a few disappointments, with 1 more star for the dessert. Clutch.

This is the spot you want to go to try traditional filipino cuisine! I come here all the time and it's really the only place I recommend to those new to the filipino food *experience*. The staff is very friendly and they really give you alot of food. They have a good variety of food and desserts. There are so many choices and sometimes they bring out stuff that's not part of their regular offering -- just to spice things up a little. For those new to filipino food I suggest this sample plate: Order the 2 item combo (comes with rice and sinigang soup) Item 1. Beef Caldaretta Item 2. Chicken Michado Drink: Calamasi Juice (kind of a lime-orange juice) Dessert: Halo-Halo (kind of ice cream smoothie with sweet beans and fruit.) Enjoy!

Came here twice and had great experiences both times. I can't say that I've been to many Filipino food places, but so far it's on my list of favorite foods. The service was really friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was good; what more could you ask for? The only downside is that the food is a tad bit on the greasy side. Not too great for anyone who's watching their weight, but it's still delicious to me! I would definitely come back.

This place has pretty good filipino food. The lechon is legit. The bibingka is also pretty tasty. The pancik malabon is also pretty good. They have all my favorites and I enjoy coming here for some filipino food. We also go here if we are catering a party. Overall, among all the filipino places in this area, this would have to be my favorite.

Typical Filipino fast food place. They serve the usual dishes on most fast food places you see around this area. It gets really busy and packed when its lunch time or dinner time so if you want to go and try this place out, make sure you come early to skip the crowd. All servers are filipinos but you do notice that most of their cooks are hispanics. You can see through their kitchen since there's a window right infront of their ordering line. Funny how the hispanics can cook better than the filipinos themselves. Price is pretty affordable and they give good portions. Alot of seating area compared to Toto's across the street. Good decor and very bright. Eating area is clean and workers are somewhat accomodating. A must try!

Juiciest Flip Food in Town Love this place! Cheap, Local, Friendly, and Fast. Always enjoy my visits to Pinoy Pinay. Their food is always delicious full of flavor and in big portions and inexpensive. You can basically feed 2 people with $10 with a drink. Usually you can get the 2 sides combo and feed 2 people with that and get a melon drink. The portions are huge and very filling so you won't go hungry at all. The drinks and desserts here are always good!! Place is cheap and taste just like good ol' home cookin. And they usually give soup for your whole party even if you don't buy individual dishes which is their yummy sinigang (tangy) soup which is so good!! You won't regret going to this place. They have one of the best filipino foods here with the best prices. I know my Filipino food since I was raised there and this place really satisfies my cravings. I take my whole family here after church, it's a great place.

We came here starving and broke. My roomie is originally from WesCo, so we were jonesin' for some flip food (yeah, I said it...I AM Filipino!). He picked this spot because they give decent portions and are cheaper than the other spots. Because I'm Filipino, I had no problem stomaching this stuff, but if you're not Filipino, and are curious to know what Flip food is like this is NOT the place to find out. Food is greasier, and the cleanliness is suspect. I was glad I ate, but would had rather spent extra bucks on some better Flip food.

Pretty good Filipino food coming from me: a Filipino-American raised on American food. There are several dishes I like to order (when available and depending on mood): the tocino, sweet and sour fish, teriyaki chicken, lechon, bicol express, and/or menudo. I also like the sour soup that comes along with the combo. I prefer Pinoy Pinay over DJ Bibingkahan and Totoy's Lechon Manok, but it's definitely nice having a selection of Filipino restaurants to choose from so close to each other.

This food is very unattractive (it looked like the cartoon prison gruel). I was hoping it would at least taste good, but that was not the case. They give you a little container with putrid rotten shrimp guts. Yeah it was something that was on Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel. YUCK! The flavors here are fatty, greasy, and all thrown together in a very haphazard way. I could not get a handle of what was up and what was down. Actually I'm quite surprised I didn't have a stomach ache after. I did enjoy this thing called Bilo Bilo (yeah like Borat's brother), and it was sweet coconut milk/pinapple/tapioca/yam/bananna goodness.
